Read how a young pastor discovers the
10-step process of chronological Bible storying.
The Following Jesus Series answers
four fundamental problems in todays missions environment:
- How can missionaries get the gospel to every people group
in this generation? Following Jesus provides a way to share the
gospel
in a totally reproducible way that is culturally indigenous to
people who cannot be reached with literate means. Rapid multiplication
is possible with the Following Jesus Series.
- Is it possible to communicate effectively with
oral learners? Yes! However, more than 70 percent of the world’s
population prefer to learn through an oral means. Researchers
have learned:
- 40 percent of the world’s population are illiterate—words
are meaningless
- 20 percent of the world’s population are
functionally illiterate—barely
able to get by
- 10 percent of the world’s population are
semi-literates—unable
to handle God’s Word
Effective communication with oral
learners is possible if a nonliterate approach helps them to
understand God’s Word.
- Will nonliterates understand a literate presentation
of the gospel and then be discipled? Nonliterates will not
understand
most literate forms of communication. Oral cultures prefer
using
Bible stories and learn them when presented in a chronological
order. The Following Jesus Series incorporates the
teaching method Jesus used to make disciples by teaching
with stories.
Here is
a definition of discipleship:
Following Jesus is a personal,
lifelong, obedient relationship with Jesus Christ in which He
transforms my character into
Christlikeness, my values to kingdom values, and involves me
in His mission in
the home, the church and the world.
- What will it take to address syncretism* problems within
varying cultures? The Following Jesus Series deals with the
worldview issues
of each people group and addresses their syncretism issues.
It is unique in that it uses a Ten Step Process. Each of the
ten
steps considers Bible truths and local worldview issues.
* Syncretism occurs when Bible truths are corrupted
with nonbiblical beliefs.
- Is anyone really making disciples of oral
learners who comprise 70 percent of the world’s population? Missionaries around
the world are seeing outstanding results with chronological Bible
storying among many different people groups. It also is being used
to disciple believers and equip leaders. Each series user will
develop a deep appreciation for presenting the gospel clearly and
then discipling believers into biblical maturity—making
disciples! Each storying session is a Bible study for the oral
learner.
